Strange World Records & Modern Horrors!

In which a new first draft exists to haunt me and two flash oddities are available to read!

Newsletter coming to you a day late because I had log-in issues of all things!

Hi all and happy summer, although here in Ireland summer is more of a state of mind. Just yesterday I imitated a mermaid on my way home from work (icecream in hand, mind you! Like I said, state of mind) because I decided I could definitely make the last 5 minute walk before the drizzle became a downpour. I failed.

But this newsletter is not about the weather, as horrifying as that too may be at times. I’m here, as promised with announcements!

If you’ve been around on the cloud app, you may have seen this announcement floating by on my page already. If not, I’m excited to say that I have two (!!) flash stories included in the newest zine bundle by Cursed Morsels!

You’ll find me in the liminal workplaces zine with a short piece about a student experiencing nocturnal life at a research lab, and in the STRANGE WORLD RECORDS zine documenting a peculiar but record-worthy finding during a routine medical procedure!

The bundle is available to order digitally from anywhere here or you could get a physical bundle if you’re in the US here! Or you can check out Curse Morsels press for more horrific curiosities!

Covers of zines #11-15 all included in bundle #3 by Cursed Morsels!

In other horror news, Count Strahd von Zarovich annihilated my players last week, but almost as importantly I finished the first draft of my gothic horror novel! (It has since taken a comedic turn because of who I am as a person but I got the a-okay from my agent, so I clear myself of any responsibility for that). I’m very excited to get this into reading shape, though it is a mess right now, all. First drafts are fun but painful.

That might be what my characters also said before things turned considerably less fun.

Also what my players said as I terrorized them for 2 hours.

I’m still going to be a little hush-hush about the details of the gothic horror while it’s so early in its development but I can reveal it is a) based on greek mythology & b) also engages with modern Greek folklore and setting which I adore to do. If anyone has read any of my short stories, you know I love pulling Greek myth into modern day Greece and I think it worked really well on this one. (Or it will, when I clean my draft. Give a little wash. Some food to fatten it up. Make it presentable).

More news on that later, I hope!

For now, I’m out of updates and therefore will close off this newsletter here.

See you next time!

Post-script random science fact: It is not entirely uncommon to have different tissues growing inside the body. Cysts are considered additional tissue as they’re not normally meant to be there, scarring can occur on the inside of the body, and most notably, endometriosis is a serious condition where uterus-like tissue grows in other parts of the body that’s not the uterus. Not sure if this fact was precisely ‘fun’ but it is relevant!
